Funding through the RDP - some facts and figures

Around £1.3 million of Central Government Funds are spent through the RDP on project work each year in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The RDA includes 65% of the population of Cornwall and all of the residents of Scilly.

The RDA covers 93% of the land area of Cornwall and all of Scilly.

The RDP Committee aims to implement over 100 projects annually.

Around 60% of projects will target Economic Objectives and around 35% will target Social and Community Objectives. 5% will target Environmental Objectives.

Leverage of funding is in the ratio of approximately 1:4 i.e. for every £1 of SWRDA cash spent, £4 is attracted from other funders (average figures for 1997/98).

Projects are monitored by the RDP Committee and the SWRDA. The RDP Committee arranges an external evaluation of the Programme every 5 years to ensure that it is adhering to the Overall Aim and is meeting its Objectives.

Rural Development Projects in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

The Rural Development Programme

Your environmental, economic or community rural development project could be eligible for South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) funding throughout the Rural Development Programme (RDP).

The RDP supports the development of the economic and social structure of communities in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly by working at the local level.

The RDP process always takes in to account the environmental impact of projects entering the Programme.

The frame work of the RDP is the agreed Rural Development Strategy. There are separate complementary Strategy documents for Cornwall and for the Isles of Scilly, reflecting the distinctive and unique character of each place.
