North Cornwall District
The district of North Cornwall runs from Morwenstow to Bedruthan steps and across to Bodmin, Stoke Climsland and Launceston covering one-third of the county. It has a population of 81,000 spread between the six main towns and scattered across a wide rural area.
The traditional industries of agriculture, fishing and tourism are still an important part of the local economy but North Cornwall also has large manufacturing, engineering and food production companies based around the edge of the larger settlements. Several award-winning chemical research companies operate in the district with highly skilled staff working on the development of new drugs and agrochemicals.
Since it was formed in 1974 North Cornwall District Council (NCDC) has adopted a proactive policy towards encouraging new business into the area and helping existing businesses expand. Historically it has done this by the provision of industrial land and premises. In the future the council is planning to maximise the opportunities presented by Objective 1 and other funding.
All officers of the council can be contacted through the main switchboard on (01208) 893333.
