Despite Recession Franchise Sector Sees Resilient Performance
According to the latest report from the British Franchise Association (BFA) and NatWest, the franchise sector is proving resilient in the recession. The industry contributed £11.4 billion to the UK economy in 2008, while the number of franchises trading profitably remained at 90%, the same figure as the previous year. Many franchise firms expanded, with the total number of franchise groups now 838, an increase of 3.6% on 2007.

Consumer Confidence in Online Shopping Rises
According to a survey carried out by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), an increasing number of consumers feel confident when shopping online. The poll found that 54% of shoppers believe buying online to be as safe as buying in a store, compared to only 26% in 2006.
